Representative of MOFCOM Signed a Cooperation Agreement with the United Nations’ Environment Programme
On September 11, to implement President Xi Jinping’s announcement to provide 1 billion dollars to the relevant international organizations at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative Yu Jianhua, on behalf of the Chinese Government, signed a cooperation agreement with the Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Erik Solheim at the 13th Session of the Conference of the Parties of the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification ) witnessed by Vice Premier of the State Council Wang Yang. Based on the items of South-South cooperation assistance fund, China would provide 2 million dollars to UNEP to study environmental protecting and desertification preventing with the countries along the Belt and Road and promote the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative to help other developing countries realize their Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
